Experimental Research: The Awesomeness and thriller of the Tongue

By Jobus

Tongue is a fleshy movable muscular part of the floor of the mouth of most vertebrates that has sensory organs use for tasting, licking, swallowing and articulating speech.

Any time I eat or drink, I take a mental note of it. Once in a while, particularly if I've taken sweetened drinks or ate much of carbohydrate food, I usually take bitter leaf drink, effirin or ejinrin (scent leaf) to detoxify my system.

As an African man of Yoruba extraction, I take varieties of cousines, ranging from the usual pounded yam to grilled plantain, coco yam, beans, rice, jollof- rice, water yam,  boiled or and roasted corn/plantain, millet, ikokore, ojojo etc, as well as drinks like Fanta, Red Wine, and all sorts of drinks with different flavors and aroma. The surprising thing is that the tongue accommodates them all. The tongue situates and adjusts to all varieties of foods and drinks.

Now, if you compare some liquor drinks to bitter leaf, how do you react when you drink both on different occasions? I'm sure you squeeze your face when you take bitter leaf and licks your lip when you take other drinks?  What makes the difference? What's the difference between green bottles and urine? Yet, you won't take urine, but relishes the green bottles, particularly if chilled, and on a sunny day when you are tired and totally fagged out!

What manner of a part of human is the tongue? It is so mysterious that man has not really taken note of its awesomeness.

The tongue is powerful in ability, resilient in composition, swift as a sword, cool as cucumber, destructive as a bulldozer,  yet innocuous in makes, formation and adaptation.

The awesomeness of the tongue, just as miraculous as water, speaks of the awesomeness, impenetrable divinity of the Almighty God. The awesomeness of the tongue is the daunting, inspiringly penetrating, terrific, and an extraordinary power of the word of God. It is deeper than the ocean's depth; it kills, it brings life.

Friend, this morning, I beseech you to keep away from the strive of the tongue, for "death and life are in the power of the tongue"

Proverbs 18:21

Use your tongue for a good cause and hurt no one. Wash your tongue so you don't destroy yourself or others.
