Benin City -The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development focuses on promoting social justice, economic empowerment, and gender equality for women and children. Under the leadership of Chief (Barr.) Marie Olabisi Idaomi, Ph.D, appointed by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, the ministry has made significant strides.
Idaomi's experience in overseeing complex projects, crisis management, and advocacy for women's empowerment and child welfare has been instrumental in driving change.
Since her appointment, Idaomi has brought women together, organizing seminars and conferences on women and girl-child empowerment. The ministry's efforts have been recognized, particularly with the approval of a billion naira soft loan to women in Edo State. This initiative has empowered women, helping them overcome joblessness and poverty.
One beneficiary expressed gratitude, stating that "this loan has been a long-awaited hope for us, I have been called for the loan, the processes is ongoing, I saw other women too who are beneficiary of loan, it's not by who you know before you can have access to the loan like in the time pass, it's now so plain and I will like to appreciate the Okpebholo-led administration for remembering and empowering women, enabling us to care for our children and improve our livelihoods. The consensus among Edo women is that the Ministry of Women Affairs is indeed better now than before, thanks to Idaomi's leadership and the government's support." She concluded
