The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, Prof. Augustine Angba says the institution has zero tolerance for cultism, hooliganism and other anti-social vices on campus. He stated this while addressing the newly matriculating students of the institution during the 22nd Matriculation Ceremony of the state university.
The Calabar Campus of the event which took place earlier today, February 8, 2024 was well attended by management staff of the University, Members of the University Senate, Deans of Faculties and parents/guardians of the students.
Speaking further, the Vice Chancellor highlighted some of his pet projects which includes "Feed One, Train One Student Award" which is geared towards awarding scholarships to selected students with the Best Grades in various faculties and other Awards meant to encourage students to be at their best while calling on the student to remain committed to their studies by ensuring that they attend all their classes as according to him "The 70% attendance in classes to be qualified to write examination policy of the University is mandatory and binding in all students".
Prof. Angba also called in the students to always pay up their school fees promptly and regularly and abide by all rules and regulations of the institution. He urged them to be at their best behaviors at all times and be good ambassadors of the citadel of learning.
The students were welcomed into the university through the . matriculation oath after been presented by all Deans of their various faculties. The faculties include Engineering, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Education, Physical Sciences, Communication Technology and Architecture.
In her vote of thanks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Mrs Joy Etiowo appreciated the governor of the state for his continuous support to the institution. She called in the students to remain focused on their studies while thanking all management staff, Senate members, Staff of the institution and parents for their continuous support in moving the institution forward.
Speaking with our correspondent, one of the Matriculating students who identified himself as Philip Michael expressed joy at the event saying "I am very happy to be here today. I got admitted into this prestigious institution in my second attempt and I am hoping to come out with flying colours at the end".
Highpoint of the event was the administration of the Matriculation oath taken by all the students.
