Speaking with the founder of The Ooni of Ife Adire Oodua Textile Hub, Princess Ronke Ademiluyi; Adire Oodua Hub is a resource and educational facility dedicated to the preservation of traditional techniques of Adire Textile manufacturing passed down through generations. The Hub raises awareness and understanding of the sustainability of Adire Textile production through creative educational programmes for adults and children.
The hub is a very good thought. If I can suggest, I would want to advice that you do a lot of research on the dyes you use. I know I shouldn't be teaching you what you already know but it pains me when one buys an Adire from Abeokuta and before long it has lost it is crisp and attractive look.
I would suggest that you have information and even workshops by visiting artisans from the UK who understand dyes because even vegetable skins can be used in dying. The hub is not just a 2×4 Adire Centre because it is in the cradle and has the stamp of the Ooni so whatever comes out of there has to be unique. It should be abreast of modern techniques of hand dying so it can have many visitors and students.
However, it should not be out of place if students from Obafemi Awolowo University as well as other students across Nigeria come there to do industrial attachment. I believe it should be a place that has a head and shoulders above whatever exists anywhere. It will not be out of place if ultimately you have a shop where quality dyes and unadulterated chemicals are sold. I wish you all the luck. I know I have given a tall order but God will help you achieve the ultimate.
In Abeokuta they have some very fantastic intricate designs that are very eye catching. They are not simple and I don't know how they achieve them. You might want to have people learn the techniques.
