Alleged cultists kill Rivers university student

A 100-level student of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, was reportedly shot on campus on Wednesday during a cult clash.

Our correspondent gathered that there was a clash between suspected members of two cult groups, and the victim who was shot was rushed to a hospital, where efforts were being made to perform surgery to remove the bullet from his body.

Speaking to Victor, a 300-level student, he said there was no indication that the student hit by the bullet was part of them.

The Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, allegedly confirmed on Monday that the earlier clash involved two suspected cult groups, saying the command was investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, the management of the university has suspended all remaining activities for the Students’ Union Government Week and directed students to return to their classrooms on Thursday, August 13, 2026, for normal academic activities.
