Mature entry students at Nalikule College of Education, Kanengo, Lilongwe, Malawi are locked in a dispute with college management over the requirement to undergo Teaching Practice (TP).
The students had written to the college on December 17, 2025, seeking exemption from the practicum.
However, in a response dated January 6, 2026, management dismissed the request, insisting that the college curriculum requires all students to complete Teaching Practice before graduation.
One mature entry student, who spoke on condition of anonymity, argued that the decision is unfair.
"Mature entry students with Diplomas in Education from sister institutions such as Domasi College of Education are exempted from Teaching Practice, including those studying at other universities in Malawi, so, why not us?," the student wondered.
College management has maintained that Teaching Practice contributes to the final award and remains compulsory for all students at Nalikule.
