College of Medicine Alumni of University of Lagos, Class of 2004, have renovated lecture room with over N10m. The lecture room at the institution was renovated as part of activities marking their 20th anniversary.
The renovated lecture room was launched during their reunion to aid good learning environment the event tagged “20 Years Strong: Our Journey So Far”, held at CMUL, Idi-Araba, Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the reunion, Dr Olayemi Dawodu, said the initiative was aimed at improving learning conditions for medical students and supporting the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
“This institution poured into us. Now it is our turn to pour back,” she said. The renovated lecture room has been equipped to international standards, including smart TVs, 24-hour electricity through inverters, and an enhanced learning environment.
Beyond infrastructure, the alumni also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in medicine. Dr Dawodu said AI could help bridge the gap caused by a shortage of specialists in rural and underserved areas, while emphasising that technology should complement, not replace, professional expertise.
“There are people in certain areas who don’t have access to specialists. If AI allows me to read slides remotely and give a proper diagnosis, quality healthcare is being delivered,” she said.
The reunion also featured discussions on AI in medicine and dentistry, with panellists exploring its applications and ethical considerations. Member of the local planning committee, Dr Dipo Ayedun, added that the alumni maintained that collaboration with colleagues abroad provided students with global perspectives and mentorship opportunities.
