The Hunger Protests: Calling Out Detractors and Uniting for Change.

As the hunger protests continue to gain momentum across Nigeria, it is crucial to address the actions and comments of those who seek to undermine the movement. We must hold accountable those in positions of power who have failed to support the protesters and address their legitimate concerns.

1. Governor Wike's Silence on Police Aggression:

The use of tear gas against peaceful protesters by the Abuja police is a clear violation of Nigerians' fundamental rights. In his capacity as the FCT Minister, Wike has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of his constituents. His failure to call the Abuja police to order and defend the protesters' rights is a troubling indication of his priorities. Wike's inaction in the face of police aggression should not go unnoticed or unaddressed.

2. Traditional Rulers' Lack of Support and Ooni of Ife's Condemnation:

Traditional rulers play a significant role in Nigerian society, and their stance on pressing issues carries considerable influence. The lack of support from some traditional rulers for the hunger protests, as well as the Ooni of Ife's condemnation of the demonstrations, is disheartening. Instead of denouncing the protests, these leaders should engage with the protesters and help amplify their concerns. Their dismissal of the protesters' plight only serves to further marginalize the voices of Nigerians who are struggling to survive.

3. Asari Dokubo's Attempts to Suppress Protests in Port Harcourt:

Asari Dokubo's declaration that no protests will be allowed in Port Harcourt is an affront to the democratic principles of freedom of assembly and expression. His attempt to stifle the voices of Nigerians who are peacefully protesting their government's failure to address hunger is unacceptable. Dokubo's comments only serve to inflame tensions and distract from the core issues that have driven Nigerians to take to the streets.

4. Channeling Anger Towards All Levels of Government:

While the presidency has been the primary focus of the hunger protests, it is essential to remember that ministers, senators, state governments, and local government councils also bear responsibility for the current state of affairs. It is crucial to hold these representatives accountable for their roles in creating or exacerbating the issues that have led to widespread hunger and economic hardship.

Despite the challenges posed by detractors and naysayers, the resilience of Nigerians in the face of adversity is truly commendable. As the hunger protests continue into their second day, it is imperative that we remain united and steadfast in our pursuit of justice and accountability. We must not relent until our demands are met and the Federal Government takes meaningful action to address the hunger crisis plaguing our nation.
