Breaking News: NYSC: Chief Patrick Eholor files appeal and request Appeal court to disqualify minister for arts and culture from office.

 


Human Rights Activist and One Love Foundation Convener, Chief Patrick Eholor (FoNS) has initiated another  legal action vide a notice of appeal filed against the judgement of Federal High Court Abuja presided over by Justice J. Omotosho validating the office of minister for  Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, in Mrs Hannatu Musawa.


This move comes following revelations that Musawa was an National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member position and was also at the time of her Ministerial appointment was concurrently been appointed to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Moreso, Chief Patrick Eholor legal team lead by human rights lawyer, Barrister Samuel Ihensekhien Jnr. filed this notice of appeal raising so many grounds in this regard against the federal high court judgement.Chief eholor contends that Musawa’s dual roles as an NYSC member and a federal minister of Nigeria are incompatible with provisions of nysc act and bye law.


On Friday 21st June 2024, Patrick Eholor and his legal team lodged and filed the notice of appeal  at the Federal High Court in Abuja for onward transmission to the Abuja court of appeal.




This move comes following revelations that Musawa was at the time of appointment a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member position and has also  concurrently been appointed to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Chief Eholor in his remarks said that he is not satisfied with judgement of federal high court ,Abuja and as firm believer in the constitutional process and faith in the Nigeria judiciary. He has filed this appeal to challenge the entirety of justice James omotosho judgement on this issue. 


Chief Eholor further said that It is now unequivocally clear, and that he is further persuaded by the authoritative pronouncements of the Nigeria Supreme Court in the 2019 Modibbo vs. Usman case, that a Youth Corps member lacks the competence to contest any election in Nigeria or engage in partisan politics, as exemplified by Mrs. Hanaatu Musawa in this instance.” and hence he is ready to challenge the judgement of federal high court and go the long haul in search of justice in this matter.
