The Senate of the University of Calabar has convened a Special Meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2024, where critical deliberations led to a consequential resolution. In a memorandum issued by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel O. Egbe, it was officially announced that the position of Class Representatives has been proscribed.

However, in the resolution key points from the Memo stated 'Immediate Proscription of classreps as number one, this mean that the Senate, through the University Registrar, communicated the immediate proscription of the position of Class Representatives. This directive is to be adhered to without delay."

Secondly "Reasons for the ban is attributed to the identified unwholesome activities of class representatives within the university. The Senate's decision seeks to rectify and curtail any negative impact these activities may have on the academic environment."

Moreover, the memo stressed "the importance of all class representatives acknowledging and adhering to the proscription directive. Failure to comply may result in unpleasant consequences for those who disregard the resolution and also that Lecturers are advised, through the memo, to engage directly with students without the involvement of any intermediary. This shift in approach aims to foster a more direct and transparent interaction between faculty and students."

Finally, the memo read that "Responsibility of Academic Heads such as Provosts, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Institutes, and Heads of Department are urged to ensure strict compliance with the proscription of Class Representatives."
