Following President Buhari's 2-week ultimatum to the Ministry of Education and National Labor Congress to end the ASUU Strike, the incumbent President of the Union, Professor Emmanuel Osodoke, has recently addressed Nigerians and education lovers on the current status of the ongoing strike. He did so in a press release addressing preconceived misconceptions about the strike.
In a press release, he bemoaned the nonchalant response of the leader of the National Labor Congress.
In his words, "When we expressed our frustration at the manner the engagement processes were going, Dr. Chris Ngige, went on to lampoon the Ministry of Education; saying he was not our employer. At one point, he directed our union to go and picket the office of the Minister of Education, who is our employer. Subsequently, he tactfully rescued himself. "
After several failed bargains to resolve the strike, as at this current update, Prof Osodoke, with his display of tenacity, has probably ruled out the possibility of suspending the strike within 2 weeks if the union's needs are still not met. Stressing that the strike can be resolved within two days if the bodies concerned act swiftly.
He also lauded the efforts of members, stakeholders nationwide, the National Labor Congress, and Nigerian students as he further expressed hopes of winning the fight.
"We appreciate the teaming Nigerians for identifying with our vision in this respect. We specifically acknowledge the support and sacrifices of our students (including our members who are running their postgraduate programmes) as well as their parents; they are our critical partners in this transformation project. We in ASUU shall do our utmost best not to let you down," he said.
