UNIBEN STUDENTS HAIL VC AT THE TOWN HALL MEETING.


     The  vibrant Vice Chancellor of the  University of Benin, Professor Lilian I. Salami called for a town hall meeting on the 15th of October, 2021 by 10am, regarding the operation of students welfare and wellbeing in the hostels. This meeting was held with the hostel Hall wardens, Hostel PEOs, Hostel Mayors and Mayoress, all coordinated by the energetic Dean of Students, Professor Patrick Igbinaduwa

     In the townhall meeting, in the presence of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor David Izekor and the University Libarian, Dr. Luke Obasuyi, the Hostel Representatives on behalf of the students commented on the leadership and motherly traits of the Vice Chancellor. They showed their appreciation by thanking her for her unending show of love and care towards the students, both on campus and off campus.

     In the meeting anchored by the VC herself,  she made mention of issues that needed to be rectified. In her speech, she also pleaded to all present to work with the fear of God, as she did not want to hear cases of money extortion from students or any form of illegal working. She also stated that the lives of the students is the managements top notch priority. Furthermore,  the VC opened the floor to the Mayors and Mayoress of the various hostels to present the challenges they face in their various hall of residence, as she did well to take note of each and every complaint laid down. With that, she promised to look into all the issues stated.

     The Mayor of Hall 4, Hon. Simon Promise, who is the Chairman of the University Mayor and Mayoress Forum appreciated the VC on the prompt actions in the hostels challenges and also used the opportunity to present other challenges that includes the cutting of grass and the need for free wifi in the halls of residence. The VC promised to allocate work forces to look into the issue of grass cutting. She also mentioned working with World Bank, MTN as well as other organizations to plant free wifi for the students in the halls of residence as NCC gave students internet facilities to all faculties.

     In conclusion, The Vice Chancellor promised the students of the University of Benin a good life on campus. She also thanked them for representing the school positively, and asked that they should cooperate with the management for a successful running of the Institution.
