The Edo State Taskforce on Protection of Government Properties has visited the Edo State Fertilizer Company and Edo Textile Mill in Auchi to investigate a petition alleging encroachment by land grabbers on part of the land.
The MD and taskforce coordinator, Eugene Okoloise, lamented that those who complain about the lack of employment opportunities are often the same individuals who encroach on or sell government-established facilities meant to provide jobs and livelihoods for people.
Meanwhile, In ST. Paul Anglican Grammar School, a government-owned school in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area where more than half of the school land has been encroached upon.
Okoloise bitterly explained that the level of encroachment in the town is out of hand and promised to take back the government land.
The Taskforce has pleaded to the land grabbers to desist from their action, promising that any government land grabbed would be taken back for Government
The Taskforce on the other hand visited Akoko Edo Local Government Secretariat Igarra and Edo line site in Auchi to inspect the ongoing development of the Secretariat and to enforce the eviction of illegal occupants from the Edo line site.
Moreover, the Taskforce team has taken its operation to Illeh community in Ekpoma for an investigative operation after the petition against the Onojie of the community Anthony Abumeri the second. The allegation against the Onojie is an encroachment and grabbing of community reserve land for sale.
Okoloise invited the Onojie and the community for joint assessment of the site. While speaking, the representative of Onojie of Ekpoma, Chief Ebuehi Akhabue condemned the actions taken by the individuals selling the government land. The Secretary to the Illeh community, Mr. Otoede Isesele, also condemned the fact that the land reportedly preserved by the Onojie has been converted into houses for some individuals.
Okoloise stated that this is a serious matter that should be brought to the attention of the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to propose a preferred solution and advise the public to stay off the land pending the government's final decision.
