Selfishness, promoter of corruption and societal downgrade, present Nigeria as a case study-Dr. Eholor

Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has faced ongoing allegations of corruption, particularly concerning his alleged stake in the petroleum industry.

These claims raise serious concerns about conflicts of interest and the potential for personal gain at the expense of the nation's well-being. As the country grapples with these troubling accusations, it is essential to reflect on the importance of patriotic citizenship and the role of political leaders in maintaining the public trust.

One example that stands in stark contrast to Tinubu's situation is that of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Unlike Tinubu, Bloomberg famously refused to accept a city salary and instead used his personal wealth to fund his office. This demonstration of selflessness and dedication to public service serves as a powerful reminder of the responsibility political leaders have to prioritize the common good over personal enrichment.

Meanwhile, the case of Adams Aliyu Oshiomole, once a vibrant and vocal labor leader, further highlights the dangers of complacency and the need for continued vigilance against corruption. Since assuming the role of a senator, Oshiomole's fervor for challenging injustice and holding power to account has seemingly waned, raising questions about the influence of political power on individual principles.

As the Nigerian people confront these challenges, it is crucial for citizens to embrace their patriotic duty and demand accountability from their leaders. The church, too, has a role to play in fostering a culture of transparency and ethical governance, encouraging its members to actively engage in the political process and stand against corruption in all its forms.

Only by working together to uphold the values of integrity, honesty, and public service can Nigeria hope to build a more just and prosperous society for all its citizens.
