To Students: How to control Mental Disorder and Depression.

 



Students who suffer from depression can find hope again


The myth that depression reduces many to seeking self-pity has left many young people and students reclined in sharing their experiences. "In Nigeria, an estimated 20–30 percent of our population is believed to suffer from mental disorders. This is a very significant number, considering that Nigeria has an estimated population of 216 million, according to macro trends Nigeria's population growth rate. It’s a medical condition caused by disordered behavior, emotions, and behavioral alterations in the brain that can dent our relationships with others.


Many think mental illnesses are common among introverted, shy, and quiet people, but I bet to differ. Depression is a mental disorder that is common across spheres of temperature. It affects a sanguine, melancholic, choleric, or phlegmatic person.


However, not every slight change in affection, event, or sadness indicates that someone needs medical attention. Dismay or disappointment is common during the sudden loss or death of a loved one. A sad breakup or misunderstanding can turn into a pothole and you start skipping lectures, refusing to hang out with friends or colleagues, and social events. But one thing that distinguishes depression from normal days of sadness could be; elongated days of moodiness, inability to control difficult times adequately, and times of continuous distraction after a brief second of excitement.


Because we at All Campus show love and care for our student's mental health and well-being, we spoke to a psychiatrist and a health expert to help demystify and create more awareness of society’s relegated topic. This might not be taught in school, but we know many people are slowly drifting away from the stress and anxiety of life issues. Sometimes people tend to control these disorders like men through careless behavior, drinking uncontrollably, or abusing drugs. But the good news is that it normally improves with proper treatment, just like other ailments.
