Campaigner hits FUTA VC after seeking assistance for varsity’s development.



The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, Professor Adenike Oladiji, has called on individuals and corporate bodies to support the institution in achieving its vision.


Oladiji made the call at the 32nd convocation ceremony of the institution, held on Saturday, on the campus of the university.


Punch reported that "The don noted that while the management of the school had achieved a lot from donations and grants from stakeholders, more assistance was still needed for the development of the institution.


"She said, “In spite of our modest achievements, the university still requires enormous support towards actualising its noble vision. In that regard, the university would deeply appreciate generous support in the way of an endowment of professorial chairs in various disciplines to be named after the donors, donation of laboratory equipment and other learning materials, and award of doctoral and post-doctoral scholarships and fellowships for staff.



"The FUTA VC also sought assistance in the area of “provision of lecture halls and laboratories with ultra-modern facilities, the institution of prizes and awards for outstanding students and staff, provision of students hostels under Build-Operate-Transfer Agreement; and provision of buses for student field trips.”


"She also disclosed that 26 out of the 27 academic programmes of the university on which the National Universities Commission had carried out accreditation exercise, had full accreditation while only one had interim accreditation.


“Currently, no programme of the university has been denied accreditation,” the don noted.

"At the convocation ceremony, no fewer than 5,297 students of the university were awarded first degrees, postgraduate degrees, and diplomas. A total of 3,491 received first degrees while 1,806 were conferred with a postgraduate diploma, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

Meanwhile, speaking with the Journalists, Hon. Busuyi Ojo-Jobus, the conveyner of 'Nigeria Must Change Campaign' the  President,Publisher of All Campus Show said "Why would lecturers, Professors who are to provide solutions to other's lives cannot provide Solutions for themselves?"

Jobus in his statement shown his displeasure in failure attitudes most Vice Chancellors put on, there are lots of IGR that can generate revenue for the schools without begging and disturbing the society. "Tertiary institutions should invest in Agriculture, power supply as well as producing what people consume daily both on and off campus such as Bread, Pure water, table water, body cream, soaps and so on, it will not only be source of income to them but also a job creations for their graduates and others in the society, tertiary institutions should learn how to solve problems not to add problems." Jobus concluded
