University of Benin, Ekenwa Campus gutted by fire this afternoon when most students have gone for classes, rehearsals and reading for the upcoming first semester exams.
UNIBEN Ekenwa Campus is a home of Arts where there are courses related to Performing and Theater Arts, Mass communication as well as Fine and Applied Arts with roughly five thousand students in the campus.
However, our correspondence reported the tough incident on the students residing in the PG Halls of residence today.
It was gathered that the campus has been facing fluntuation of power supply since two weeks ago, other indigenes all over Benin testified to the poor power supply in Benin City, Edo State which has caused lots of casualties at homes, offices and companies and left unattended to by the government.
Speaking with a UNIBEN student during the incident, he lamented that the incident was a shock and it is so sudden that noone knows what to do before the fire service came to rescue, "unfortunately, lot of students properties such as clothes, laptops, documents, phones were lost and noone could think of how to recover them, I am pleading to the active UNIBEN management and State government that has not taken visible action to fix the power until it destroyed our hostel, many students are homeless now, the trauma of loosing our valuables and needs for compensation." he said.
