The lady who was captured in a viral video telling the police patrol team at Mabushi Police Station to stop illegally checking her car's spare tires, pigeon holes, and other things that aren't explicitly defined as police duties under the Police Act of 2021 has been charged in court.
In the aforementioned viral video, the police patrol squad of the Mabushi Police Station threatened to shoot, assault, and maim Precious Oruche.
Furthermore, the DPO of FCT Mabushi police station, in collaboration with the DCO of FCT Mabushi police station, a certain superintendent of police, SP Busari, in a very questionable manner and on non-existent allegations of obstructing police officers, offering police officer bribes, and other allegations, charged Precious Oruche to the FCT area court on all the above sundry offences at around 12pm today, being the 11th of August 2022.
From an eye witness report, this act by the FCT DPO of Mabushi police station was done as a cover up for the police officers of Mabushi police station for their crimes and violations of the fundamental human rights of Precious Oruche.
According to the court proceedings, which were monitored by concerned civil society members and activists, Miss Precious Oruche, who was legally represented in FCT area court by Abuja-based human rights lawyer Samuel Ihensekhien jnr, was granted bail on very liberal terms by the FCT area court.
Precious Oruche narrated what occurred in the viral video and stated that after she refused to debunk and post another recorded video to mitigate the effects of the viral video of the Mabushi police patrol team assaults on her, the DPO of Mabushi police station, CSP Abdulmumuni Musa Abubakar and one Supritendent Busari, in vengeance/retaliation of the viral video recording by Precious Oruche of the condemnable acts in that regards charged her to court.
Speaking in court about the aforementioned case, Human Rights Activist, Chief Dr Patrick Eholor, stated that the Nigeria police force and its officers have not learned their lessons, and that police brutality cannot exist in the absence of Nigerians' awareness of their core fundamental rights.
He also warned that the FCT Mabushi police station's malicious prosecution of Precious Oruche, would result in another charade against the Nigeria police institution.
Adding that the IGP, as a first point, needs to view the viral video making the rounds and adequately prosecute all erring police officers in the viral video who assaulted and threatened to shoot Miss Precious Oruche.
In this regard, Miss Precious Oruche, is calling on Nigerians to keep reporting acts of brutality by police officers regardless of the negative circumstances that follow.
The case has been adjourned to October 20th, 2022.
