ASUU Strike: wasteful or useful?

Six months have passed since the federal institutions were closed as a result of the ongoing ASUU strike as of August 14, 2022. Despite several attempts to put a stop to the strike, none of them seem to be working.

The federal government has consistently supported adverse union-handling strategies since the strike's inception.

Nigerian students don't need a fortune teller to warn them that the educational system would eventually deteriorate and that the government does not care about students.

They can see it for themselves by the results of their activities.

The distinction between active and passive pupils during this period is an interesting one.

A few months into the strike, some vice chancellors of the affected colleges counseled, affected students to utilize their time participating in entrepreneurial activity that will provide significant outcomes.

Many slack students have been waiting impatiently for the strike to end as they chat and goof off. While some serious students have seized the chance to pick up new skills and get involved in profitable ventures.

And while some students may not agree with the strike; other students interviewed by All Campus Show across different higher institutions believe it to be a blessing in disguise.

A 300L Uniben student claimed that the strike gave her the opportunity to accomplish things that she might not have after school. She also disclosed, the enormous

progress she has made in her tailoring business, since the strike.

On the flip side, a UNN student laments the crippled school calender due to the strike, stating that school serves as a limit to her laid out goals.

On the other hand, a 300l student from Uniport, said the strike has created an avenue for him to work and save money to pay his school fees without neglecting of his academics.

From these students perspectives and due to the lingering strike, All Campus Show, is urging Nigerian students once again to make excellent use of their time in order to be productive as they wait for the "Infinite" strike to end. Absence of this means consenting to failure outside the realm of academia.

To add, students should desist from hanging around with friends carelessly, shun gossiping, and disengage from reckless behaviour that are not fruitful or contribute in any way to their academics or life progress. They should endeavor to make good use of the strike wisely by exploiting the labor market to acquire skills for their benefit.
