We are fighting for the Students' Interests: ASUU President.

The long-awaited drama between ASUU and the federal government has come to a halt once more. This follows the government's inability to meet ASUU's Memorandum of Action requests on the 2009 agreement amendment negotiated with the union in December 2020.

The academic body made the decision after an emergency meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja.

In a phone interview with a journalist from All Campus Show, ASUU President Professor Emmanuel Osodeke said the extension was essential to give the Federal government more time to resolve all lingering issues.

When asked who stands to benefit from another prolonged strike, the professor said, "Nigeria and Nigerian children." How many Nigerian dignitaries attend Nigeria University? Almost zero because the environment and system are not good. "

He added that" while in school during his day, students from Europe and Asia attended Nigeria University because of the admirable quality of teaching."

When asked if the students feel the same way, he said, "Students should fight for themselves, saying Nigeria doesn't know the big trap they are setting for themselves.”

However, students lament that the industrial action is threatening their academic activities and therefore call on the FG-ASUU need to shift grounds.

Other students flocked to the streets to demonstrate in some parts of the state, carrying placards with inscriptions #ENDASUUSTRIKE and #NO CLASS, NO ELECTION.

Speaking to a student, he stated, "This is meer politicking. This clearly shows where government priorities lie. Instead of allocating resources to developing Nigeria's education system, they would rather confer with Nigeria's airline operators and remedy their plight within 24 hours since they have a return on investment."

We recall that Sowore Omoyele, a human rights activist, according to his post on Twitter said he has previously encouraged the students to stage a public protest, stating that the inhumane political leaders needed to be taught a lesson.
