All Campus Show earlier reported ASUU and the federal government's perspectives regarding the ongoing academic strike. However, the students have been on the caloricity of ASUU's and the Federal government saga in the ongoing strike. While there have been threats and demonstrations to shut down the state's International Airport to impede government activities, many students have expressed their discontent with the ongoing ASUU strike and how it is detrimental to Nigerian students.
Speaking to the General. Sec of the University of Benin, representing the South-South wing, Comrade Oredia Destiny, laments, expressing his dissatisfaction with the ongoing strike.
"Aside from the waste of time and resources, drainage of academic morales, students all over the country have had their year's plans and schedules completely shattered and disrupted by this bedeviled monster called "strike." The devastating effects of having one's plans scattered afar off can never be adequately quantified; hence, students have been forced to tour the unimaginable path of hardship, uncertainty, confusion, panic, and everything so far is negative."
All Campus Media asked what his desires are in the coming days.
He remarked, "what I want to see is simple, government should attend to ASUU's demands, end the strike with immediate effect, and stop playing politics with the future of our dear Nation-Nigeria. Such an honest and harmless wish is not supposed to be too much for a sane government to grant. Nevertheless, sadly, this is Nigeria.''
Furthermore, we asked if he was firmly behind ASUU's ongoing strike; he said, "The Workman is worthy of his meat." If the government owes ASUU, let them pay what they owe. It is as simple as that. Moreover, a reasonable government that knows the implications of not paying such debt will give its all to prevent such consequences.
Similarly, the President, SUG, University of Jos, Mr. Danladi Joshua, representing the North-Central, added that,
"If truly education is the bedrock of every development, then we are delaying future development as a nation. Sadly, most people giving cold attitudes toward education had theirs free of charge."
Mr. Danladi supports General. Sec Comrade Oredia Destiny, adding that "ASUU should insist until their demands are met."
When asked if his thoughts represent all students in the North Central geo-political zone, he said, "I am the voice of other students, and I speak for all. This will help avoid the occurrence of another subsequent strike."
Conversely, the immediate past NANS National Secretary, North-Central, Comrade Yusuf Farouk, thinks otherwise in his words," ASUU, ASUP & FG, are selfish and heartless because 90% of their children are not in public school that is why they are mortgaging Nigerian students future and playing politics with the strike.
However, The former NANS President is appealing to the ASUU, ASUP, and the Federal Government, calling on the latter to fulfill its 2019 agreement and the former to shift grounds for the sake of Nigerian students.
