The on-going Students’ Union Government (SUG) Election in the University of Benin, started yesterday 22nd September, 2021 after the official clearance of the aspirants of different posts by the Dean of Student of the University. The election process started with the debate between the various contestants ,but focused more on the candidates going in for the post of President for the Student Union Government.
According to the body, the electoral commission made sure the debate solely focused on the Presidential post due to some cogent reasons.
The Presidential Office which is the highest position must be given due attention. The candidates running for the post had to also undergo due process, thus all hands had to be on deck to make sure the competent ones who can represent the student body is being projected.
However, the debate was graced by the Chaplain of the All Saint Church, UNIBEN as well as the Dean of the Student’s Affair of the Institution; Professor Patrick Igbinaduwa. The Chaplain who promised the students present at the debate that the total affairs of the students would be focused on. He stated in his speech that all the students of the University who feels threatened or intimidated by the lecturers or those having some personal challenges should feel free to report directly to him. With that said, he made available his call line to the public of the Institution.
Addressing the students at the debate, the Dean of Students pleaded publicly to the students, apologizing for whatever may have transpired weeks ago, saying it should be forgotten in order to create a better tomorrow. He also promised that the office of the Students Affairs, will make sure that the welfare of the students will be the managements major priority, both for Ugbowo and Ekenwan campus.
Today 23rd September, 2021 which marks the second day of the process is manifesto, featured all the aspirants to speak on what they have in mind to do for their fellow students when they emerge as winner. The ever vibrating and brilliant aspirants produced by the great University of Benin aired their good plans for the students and for the Institution. The event was held at the Festus Iyayi Hall, UNIBEN and still graced by the one and only best Dean of Students, Professor Patrick Igbinaduwa.
The election of the Students Union Government is slated to be held tomorrow, 24th of September 2021, at their various locations. A lot has been put in place as regards the election. Committed and Hard-working Electoral Representatives have been put on ground to make sure all the agenda and schedule of these event stands firm and comes out successful.
