Benin City, Edo State, according to general sayings, has the highest number of road networks in the South‑South geopolitical zone in Nigeria but these road networks are bad, not connected, and not motorable, inherited from the previous administration.
Although, unfortunately, traffic jams are a significant problem in Benin City, worsened by flooding after rain, especially on roads like New Lagos Road and around the Uwasota and Adolor.
These delays are a long-standing issue that affects daily commutes and to address the gridlock, the government is undertaking projects like the Ramat Park flyover, which is expected to be completed by May 2026, and has plans for other flyovers at the Dawson Road and Sapele Road junctions, work also ongoing on Sapele Road which have cause more traffic jams.
I am calling out the official who is in charge of roads and infrastructure in Edo State, for the governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to please educate him that the mandate of Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa is authentic and to give Edo people stressless life.
Constructing roads is not an excuse for traffic becoming the order of the day; people are suffering trying to navigate from street to street on the network of roads. There is, therefore, no alternative road for people to navigate; Sapele Road is blocked, and the street‑road networks are bad, inherited from the past administration, but the present government should have been advised by this official to work on alternative routes before working on the main Sapele Road to avoid choke-up traffic.
Governor Okpebholo should call the attention of those in charge of roads in Edo State to work on this by understanding that traffic is an enemy to businesses and emergencies.
This write‑up is a result of love for the government and the people of Edo State.
