French Language Debate Rocks Kwara State Schools, Kwara NAFT Calls For Parents, Government's Supports.



 French is a rich and influential Language that originated in France and is spoken by millions worldwide. It's known for its elegance, expressiveness, and cultural significance.


Nigeria's relationship with Francophone countries is evolving, driven by mutual interests and shared challenges. Studying French as a Nigerian offers numerous benefits, both personally and professionally.


The Kwara State chapter of Nigeria Association of French Teachers (NAFT) staged the Nigeria-French students debate, the first of its kind. The competition triggered many reactions from different unions of teachers in the country, praising the initiative.


The French debate emphasized the importance of the French language in Nigeria's educational curriculum. Speaking with journalists, Kwara State chairperson of NAFT, Mrs. Comfort Omotayo Ayano, said, "French has come to stay. This debate is organized as a form of sensitization to highlight the importance of learning French language."


Ayano called for the support of parents and government in ensuring the growth of French language in schools.


The Kwara State commissioner for Education, represented by Oyegoke Hassan, said, "Government is trying its best to ensure the growth of French language in public secondary schools through recruitment of French teachers."


State Examiner for WAEC and NECO Bolanle Adigbole, lamented the dropping numbers of French students every year, attributed to the new curriculum in Nigerian education.

At the end of the debate, Adesoye College in Offa took first position while Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Model School in Ilorin won second position, and Notre Dame Girl's Academy in Ilorin got third position. The event also featured different primary schools featured in songs poem and drama.
