The Edo State Task Force on Protection of Government Property is government body responsible for safeguarding and managing government assets and properties in Edo State.
The Taskforce led by Comrade Eugene Okoloise has taken swift action to address issues of safeguard public assets and lives since the inception of Senator Monday Okpebholo's administration as Edo State Governor.
Under the leadership of Eugene Okoloise, the Edo State Taskforce for the Protection of Government Property has intensified its efforts to safeguard public infrastructure, ensuring the preservation of vital assets for the benefit of the state's citizens. The taskforce has investigated reports of illegal encroachment on government land, identifying and addressing instances of unauthorized occupation and use. Decisive action has been taken to prevent further abuse, protecting the state's interests and investments.
Furthermore, community members have been sensitized on the importance of respecting and preserving public property, promoting a culture of responsibility and stewardship. Through this initiative, the taskforce aims to foster a sense of ownership and accountability among citizens, ultimately contributing to the development and progress of Edo State.
According to Vanguard, "Okoloise recently painted a sad picture of how individuals and communities have illegally taken over government lands for their personal and other uses saying not less than 150,000 buildings in Edo State were sitting on government land which were illegally converted."
" Hectares of land retrieved from the Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria (RRIN) meant for a park by the immediate past administration was diverted and sold to individuals by an unnamed senior official of that administration."
Okoloise also said that "over 30 schools have been recovered from intruders and that the taskforce has received over 3,000 petitions in less than three months that it was set up."
Okoloise said" Ours is to protect government property, overtime, a lot of government properties in Edo state have been taken over, 70 percent of the moats in Benin City have been taken over by individuals and we have been able to recover a lot of landed properties and we will do more." Okoloise vowed
