The National Orientation Agency (NOA), founded in 1993, is a Nigerian government agency responsible for promoting national unity, development, and social mobilization. NOA's primary functions include providing accurate and timely information to citizens on national issues, fostering national unity, and promoting a sense of shared citizenship.
The agency also encourages positive attitudes, values, and behaviors among citizens and mobilizes them to participate in national development initiatives.
In an interview, Busuyi Ojo-Jobus, the President of All Campus Show and the author of the book "Keys That Make a Woman Shine" for Folorunsho Alakija, described NOA as the government's mouthpiece that mediates the right information to people and directs government affairs to the minds of the people.
Jobus stated, "I have seen the robust work the agency does now, and it has shown how the agency is a machinery for developing the nation. Although I visited the DG in office in 2016 to appreciate their efforts, it's better now than before."
Busuyi Ojo-Jobus highlighted NOA's efforts in combating fake news, which can cause societal clashes. He emphasized that "NOA has battled with the case of fake news among citizens, which can cause clash in the society. NOA now plays a vital role in shaping Nigeria's social fabric and promoting national development through various initiatives and programs. The agency is better now than before, as they upgrade in their assignment day by day."
Busuyi Ojo-Jobus advised both the government and the people, to government he said "government should support and empower the National Orientation Agency more to sanitize social media and other public information platforms, ensuring that the right information is passed to the public to avoid misinformation in the country, he also advised the citizens to depend on NOA as a reliable source of right information about the government, and should shun fake news by relying on information that comes from NOA."
