Amidst an atmosphere charged with anticipation and excitement for the acknowledgment of academic prowess, the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship presentation commenced with an inaugural address from Prof. Eyang Anthony, the Dean of the Student Affairs division.
"Today, we convene to bestow scholarships and honor excellence within our esteemed institution of higher learning. This event marks a significant milestone, and I extend my commendation to the Vice Chancellor for her efforts in facilitating timely access to student results, including digital copies, thus enabling transparency in result status. Today, she has the honor of awarding scholarships to our top-performing students. I express my heartfelt gratitude to all who have contributed to making this event a reality: the Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, and the Student Affairs Division."
In her address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Florence Banku Obi delineated her visionary goals as articulated in her campaign manifestos and investiture document, aligning them with the essence of the occasion. "I pledge to chart a new course, guided by a fresh perspective, to enhance our university's global standing."
Discussing the scholarship's criteria, she stated, "This scholarship encompasses a 50% reduction in fees until graduation, contingent upon the student maintaining a minimum CGPA of 4.0 and ranking at the apex of their respective departments."
Addressing students ineligible for the scholarship, she clarified, "Those who have changed programs due to academic setbacks or possess failed courses are not eligible. Presently, over 80 students have a CGPA exceeding 4.0, yet many have fallen short due to failed courses."
She noted the gender distribution among the recipients, stating, "Out of the 34 students, 21 are male and 13 are female. As we announce the names of withdrawing students today, it is imperative to herald those who have demonstrated academic excellence."
Mr. Emmanuel Ehadi lauded the Vice Chancellor's endeavors in his speech, representing the Commissioner for Education. "As a ministry, we are embarking on reforms aimed at fostering academic excellence. The Commissioner of Education holds this gesture in high esteem and is proud of the Vice Chancellor's initiative."
Adie Pius Adinya, excelling in medicine and surgery with the highest CGPA among the scholars, expressed his gratitude and determination. "I am elated to witness this momentous occasion. The competitiveness of medical school further motivates me. I am committed to maintaining this scholarship and will strive to excel."
