High Cost of Governance In Nigeria, an act of corruption and Famous societal disease-Eholor

Corruption is a famous disease in Nigeria and the fourth arm of government which has eaten up all the resources of the country and with the aim of squandering the future into one purse.

Reacting to a publication by Vanguard yesterday "Cost of Governance: Disquiet over nearly 3, 000 aides for Akpabio, Abbas, lawmakers"

Chief Dr. Patrick Osagie Eholor otherwise known as Ultimate Equal, President of the One Love Foundation and Father of Nigerian Students-FONS with the Journalists today responded and said:

"Nigeria as a country is greatly perturb by the high cost of governance, Peter Obi once said that there was a need for government at all levels to reduce the cost of governance and redirect the funds to socio-economic development, he further went on to say that we cannot continue to spend our scarce resources to finance unnecessary consumption and pile up huge national debts. We must increase savings and generate resources to provide public amenities."

"So far the cost of running this country Nigeria is one serious problem our leaders has failed to look and addressed, those who have done did it half wholeheartedly and the country is gradually grinding to a halt. Many do not see it but I do, and if only our so-called leaders could address this then Nigeria would be saving billions of Naira that could be pumped into other productive ventures. A governor with with close to a thousand aids cannot tell us honestly that his state problem will be solved in four years term because that state resources are being used in the course of governance instead of providing the much needed infrastructure to jump start the economy."

"A video surfaced online showing Netherland Prime Minister heading to work trekking without securities or aids, one of it citizens went closer to him and was very excited trekking with the prime minister along the way. But in Nigeria hardly will you see such, either our senator, governor or representative and the least Local Government chairman is with his aids or bunch of securities to bounce everyone out of the way."

"Over the years fingers have continued to point at the over bloated bureaucracies large ministries, agencies and parastatals that have become a torn in the flesh hindering Nigerias progress. It was also once reported that Dozens of members of USA Congress Sleep in their offices, this is a good report and I honestly wish Nigeria too can replicate this as it will reduce the over bloated budget. Again I’m of the opinion that it is high time we move from Consumption to Production, let us come together and call on our leaders to cut down the number of aids they have, reduce their allowance and utilize the money being allocated for constituency project."

Moreover, Uganda as a case study, Xinhua in 2019 that in an attempt to combat against corruption, Yoweri Museveni, Chairman, National Resistance Movement created new institutions at both the local and national level. Donors were attracted to Uganda because of their willingness to reform and stop corruption. Foreign donors began sending conditional aid to help Uganda with its reform process, unlike Nigeria legislative arm, a place of shame where selfishness and  pride have set in the mind of those that should make a genuine laws to benefit whole of the country, most of the donors have turned their back to helping Nigeria, the giant of Africa breaking down and crawling.

In Rwanda, Clement Musangabatware, Rwanda's deputy ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting corruption noted that the introduction of an online procurement system for offering public tenders and the use of ICT in services such as recruitment have reduced the temptation of corruption through the reduction of physical contact, comparing this fact with the mindset of our leaders in Nigeria, while other countries such as Rwanda is engaging in using ICT to do both official and unofficial works which is faster and lesser, the 10th assembly speaker of the House tries to increase his aids, this made us known that many of these leaders has nothing good to offer our country and it is so sad.
