Members of the COALESCED Executives, under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA)in University of Benin, led by Comr. Gospel Ebiye, has recently illuminated some lecture rooms in University of Benin Ekehuan Campus .
All Campus show reports that this is following the commencement of the Operation Light Up FASA campaign in the University of Benin.
Speaking to Jones Udokoghi, the Deputy Governor, Faculty of Arts, who is from the Mass communication department located at Ekehuan Campus, he disclosed that the project officially kicked off at the Ugbowo Campus on the 5th of May 2023 and will continue until the 12th of May 2023. He described ‘Operation light Up FASA’ as a dream come true for the executives as he revealed some projects in their list.
According to him: “The Coalesced Excos on assuming office, mapped out certain projects that Fasans needed, three projects were at the top of our list, which are :drilling a borehole for the faculty at Ugbowo, lighting up classes at both campuses, and providing fans in all FASAN classes. By the grace of God, two of these projects have been completed, leaving the fans for second semester.”
“By the grace of God, we have been able to reach all the Departments at Ekehuan that needed lights, by providing light bulbs for three class rooms, D.P.A 1 & 2 and C.P.A 1., and at Ugbowo, the A series have been lit up, and work is currently going on at the B series, so that all FASANS can benefit from the project.” He said.
He further lauded the Dean of the Faculty who has contributed immensely to the success of the ongoing project.
Addressing the issue of security, Jones said “while planning for the execution of the project, the issue of theft was a major concern, we had many plans to put this in check, for instance we had the idea of taking the bulbs out by 12am, and returning the bulbs by 4pm when students would be preparing for night classes, but then we thought about it, what if we are not early enough to fix the bulbs, again students would have to read in the dark, again we thought about locking the classroom, but again that is almost impossible.”
“At Ugbowo, it is almost impossible to steal the bulbs, because the top of the building is very high, but here at Ekehuan it is not the same.
So, we are using this medium to appeal to the conscience of students, the lights were fixed so that you will be able to read in classes, and come out in flying colors, please do not take the bulbs, if you need bulbs in your homes or hostels, do not hesitate to reach out to the COALESCED executives, we would make sure you get one. Remember a better Nigeria starts with you and me. “ He concluded.
Meanwhile there have been several reactions about the initiative from the students.
