The Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association has called for greater participation of youths and young professionals in Nigeria’s economic and national development.
The National President of NUASA, Temple Oghenerioborue, made the call in a statement on Sunday following the association’s courtesy visit to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, in Abuja.
Oghenerioborue said the visit was part of the association’s efforts to strengthen engagement between young accounting professionals, government and key institutions shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
He said the meeting provided an opportunity for the NUASA delegation to engage the minister in discussions on Nigeria’s economic outlook, ongoing tax reforms, the future of the accounting profession, digital finance, youth participation in the economy and the role of young professionals in national development.
He added that discussions also centred on the forthcoming NUASA National Convention 2026, which is expected to bring together accounting students, academics, professional bodies, industry leaders and other stakeholders from across the country.
A statement issued by the association said, “The Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (NUASA), during a visit to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, called for the participation of youths and young professionals in economic and national development.
“The visit to the ministry was part of the association’s ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement between young accounting professionals, government and key institutions shaping Nigeria’s economic future.”
According to the statement, the engagement provided an opportunity for continued dialogue and possible collaboration in economic education, professional development, youth engagement and preparation of the next generation of professionals to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic development.
In recognition of Oyedele’s contribution to public service and fiscal leadership, NUASA presented him with the Distinguished Public Service and Fiscal Leadership Award.
The association said the award recognised his commitment to public service, fiscal policy development and economic leadership, adding that it reflected its commitment to celebrating Nigerians whose professional and public service careers could inspire the next generation.
The statement added, “The engagement further reinforced NUASA’s vision of positioning accounting students beyond the classroom, preparing them to become professionally competent, technologically equipped, economically conscious and responsible future leaders.
“The association expressed its appreciation to the Honourable Minister and the Ministry of Finance for the warm reception, insightful engagement and openness to continued collaboration in advancing opportunities for young Nigerians.
“NUASA continues to build bridges between the classroom, professional practice, industry and government, preparing the next generation for the responsibility of shaping Nigeria’s future.”
