A recent clash between some Soldiers of the S&T barracks in Benin City,
Chief Dr. Patrick Eholor, otherwise known as Ultimate Equal, the President of One Love Foundation has condemned the attitude displayed by some soldier men in the recent clash between Soldiers and Students of the University of Benin. Commenting on the issue Dr. Patrick laments as he questioned the act. According to him: “How will soldier leave his barrack to another place like barrack (students camp) to destroy things and think it is normal”
From several happenings it is safe to say that the system of the country proves abnormal, that is why everything under the system replicate the foundation of the system. It is no longer news to Nigerians , the way Force Men dehumanize Nigerians, be it Police, Military, Custom etc. A typical example is seen in 2020 when Nigerians protested to #Endsars.
No one likes protest, but one has to make a peaceful protest when you live in an in-conducive society, a place you call home, your father’s land where all manner of indiscipline prevails amongst the Government officials, security agents, banking industry, the NNPCL and even political parties. The question is, do we sit back and fold our arms?
Eholor also blamed the federal government for fueling this indiscipline, in his words “government have not tried for his people who employed them to power, the aims and objectives of the government which is to secure his people but now humiliating, intimidating, frustrating and dehumanizing People on the street as we see it everywhere today.” He added.
Patrick further said that “The UNIBEN students and soldiers clash happened on campus where students are on the queue to withdraw, it was reported that the soldiers came in, compelling the students to give them chance to withdraw, it was done arrogantly as a witness said, they started beating the students in their school to the extent the students retaliated. This is a Democratic state and there is rule of law to maintain the law and the order, no one is permitted to dehumanize citizens because the state is under law to make and to execute, soldiers are not design to execute law the way they molest people on the streets when we are not in animal kingdom, this happen and none has come out to condemn when these soldiers have molested the students and disrupted the peace in the school, we hereby call the government officials, the Chief of Army staff, Minister of defense as well as the national media houses both print and broadcast to look into this matter to address and to curb the act, it is not healthy for the society.”
