Cultists shoot ex Yabatech, Student, suspect nabbed.O

A yet-to-be-identified ex-student of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State, has been shot dead in the School premises by Suspected cultists on Wednesday.

According to  report, undergraduates were celebrating their students’ week when the suspects shot the victim dead.

The attack created tension in the school made students and people present at the scene of the shooting scamper to safety over fear of being struck down by a bullet.

A Punch report said a Student, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the person that was killed was a cultist, adding that the victim’s death was connected to the ongoing cult clash that began in July.

In his words,“   The incident happened on Wednesday. The killing is connected to the recent cult clash going on in the school. We are tired; Yabatech has been peaceful for several years until recently that these cult guys now take joy in killing themselves.”

The institution’s Student Union President, Taiwo Ayomide, who also confirmed the killing, said the cult-related clashes had been going on for months.

He said, “The person is not a current student of the school; he is an ex-student.

He belongs to a cult group that has issues with a rival cult group. These cult clashes have been going on for some months now.

“Yesterday was another time after many months that such a thing had happened. In three months, three people have been shot within the school premises.

“We have taken the help of a special security outfit to help us strengthen our security system. This is becoming an every time thing and it is alarming. As the students’ president, I am not comfortable with what is going on.”

The Deputy Registrar/Head of Public Relations, Yabatech, Joe Ejiofor, while confirming the attack in a statement, said the person responsible for the shooting had been arrested.

The statement read in part, “True, a shooting incident took place in the college yesterday. Please, let it be known that the victim who was shot is not a student of the college. The good news however is that the person who did the shooting was arrested immediately and taken to the Sabo Police Station.

“This week was declared as student week which has attracted a large influx of people into the campus. Some miscreants who obviously are not students of the college and who probably have scores to settle among themselves perhaps used the opportunity of the large influx to settle their previous scores. The management, however, suspended the students’ week as a preventive measure.”
