Documentary: Insecurity and Academics in Nigeria.

Examining the narratives of formal educational activities in Nigeria without a trace of kidnapping, killings, strikes and other numerous woeful occurrences is completely inaccurate.

Talking about formal(Western) education in Nigeria, the concept stems from the introduction of western activities from the late 60’s till 1980, which is still upgrading till now, since its inception, it has been the only means of acquiring academic knowledge.

However, while others in the south and west and eastern regions battle with strikes and minute challenges in a bid to obtain this privilege(education), those in the northern regions battle with insecurity and the battle against the popular islamist group "Boko Haram", which is originally known as Jamat Ahl al-Sunnah li-l-Daawah wa al-Jihd.

Boko Haram is a group that fights consistently to overthrow the Nigerian government and is aimed at establishing an Islamic state.

They are solely against Westerniza

tion, which they view as negatively impacting Islamic values mand the proprietor of corruption in Nigeria.

Although there have been worse cases like that of the prominent Chibok and Dapchi girls kidnapped, other issues include the case of shut down of secondary schools in the northern states such as Zamfara.

Taking a look at a recent report shows not less than 75 secondary schools in Zamfara state have been shut down for over a year due to the threat of student security.

This information was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Kabiru Attahiru, in Gusau on Saturday.

When he was reading a goodwill message to a two-day meeting to domesticate the National Policy on Gender in Education (NPGE) organised by the state’s Universal Basic Education Board in partnership with UNICEF, Attahiru confirmed that most of the closed schools are mainly girls' secondary schools.

According to him, the schools were closed down in September 2021 following previous attacks on two girls’ schools in the state. The state government directed the closure of the schools following the abduction of 75 students from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in the Maradun Local Government area of the state and further assured that the state government was working round-the-clock to reopen the schools closed since September 2021 following threats by bandits.

Judging from the prolonged lockdown of these secondary schools, All Campus Show reports that "Boko Haram" means "Western education(book) is forbidden" and the territories that subject the fate of academic activities to the actions of bandits and terrorists are biased.

We further assert that by so doing, its objective is swiftly progressing in Northern Nigeria, and those states succumbing to its grip voluntarily favour their cause in the elimination of Western education and Islamizing the country.
