UNIBEN SUG SECRETARY GENERAL OFFICE MOURNS LATE COMRADE WILLIAMS UBONG
The office of the General Secretary of the University of Benin students Union Government in honour of Late Comrade William Ubong who was one-time UNIBEN SUG Secretary General who lost his life in the Aluta battle in the year 1996/97. The SUG Building of the University of Benin which was named after the Late Comrade Williams Ubong as a tribute to the brave warrior who fought with all his strength and commitment.
Comrade Lucky Abraham, who is the current SUG Secretary General of the University of Benin says this is the 10th edition of the remembrance and celebration of an icon who died during aluta struggle (protest) in the school premises.
The theme which is SECURING OUR GENERATION, THE LABOURS OF OUR HEROES PAST which is described as what should be our contributions to the present situation for better tomorrow, this event is in honour of Late Comrade Williams Ubong who was one-time Secretary General of the Student Union Government, University of Benin.
One of the speakers, Engr. Mike Oshio who was the SUG President of the institution in 1997 says that he wants to thank the organizer of this edition, he describes the death of Comrade William ubong as a tragic situation which happened during an aluta struggle, William Ubong stood firm in his struggle for the truth even though many generation have denied this duty, so we all have an obligation and responsibilities to pay for a better tomorrow. The current situation in the country is not our fault but with our efforts combined with the effort of the past heroes, we can all secure our generation to come; this generation has put blames on government, and these blames have led our society to state of anarchy as we can see today.
The event which was slated for Friday 21st of May, 2021 at Festus Iyayi Hall and was honoured by The vice chancellor, Professor Salami represented by the registrar of the institution as well as the Dean of the Students and the former SUG President (2014/15) Comrade Raymond Omorogbe. The Union members of the SUG, the Benjamin Lontana led administration were also present
