EDO 2020 NSF OPENS OFFICIALLY AMIDST CLUMSINESS
As Vice President Yemi Osinbajo makes a U-turn in attending the opening ceremony of the 20th edition of National Sport Festival Edo 2020 due to his busy schedule, the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) head by Peter Nelson and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) head by the deputy governor of Edo state, His excellency, Philip Shaibu coordinate to achieve the success of the national event, despite the frustrating weather.
However, the opening ceremony of the Edo 2020 National Sport Festival which was slated for 12noon today but due to some important excuses it is postpones to 5pm, and later to 7pm as its finally opens with the announcement of covid-19 protocols. Edo cultural troop takes over the stage with a wonderful traditional drum beat which features Benin chants. Heavy fireworks comes in to mark the opening ceremony while, the national anthem is coordinated by the awards winning music artiste, Timi Dakolo, present there is the governor of the closest neighbouring state, Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and His Royal Majesty, Omo n’edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II , the Oba of Benin who is also represented by Chief Henry Osato Bazuaye.
Moreover, Edo State cultural troops (culture blend) performance coordinates by Dr. Josephine Abbe, it’s an interesting performance which painted the whole of the atmosphere red.
However, great documentary of achievements is displayed in an audio-visual format, stating the work done on health, education, business even in sport as the state of Edo which as produced many sport notable people as Austin Eguavon and others. After the documentary, the Edo 2020 branded mascots come out for the celebration.
The 36 states contingents /delegates match past begins with Abia to Zamfara including FCT Abuja which comes last and ends with the host state, Edo State.
Oath is taken by the officials of the NSF 2020 which includes the host governor, the deputy and the minister of youths and sport.
The governor of Edo state, His excellency Godwin Obaseki, the deputy governor, Shaibu Philip and Minister for youths and sports in their speeches show their gratitude to the president Muhamad Buhari as well as the entire citizens of the country Nigeria especially the Edo who hosts this year National sport festival, due to the covid-19 pandemic, amidst all the odds, the Edo 2020 National Sport Festival comes reality. Heavy fireworks is shut to end this as the young trending artiste, Fireboy performed to round the event off.
