DSS, Police Arrest UI Student Over Phone Call on #EndBadGovernanceINigéria Protest.

The Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the NigĂ©rian Police have made a series of arrests connected to the forthcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigĂ©ria protest.

Among those detained is a University of Ibadan (UI) student.

Ikhuemoisa Adeoluwa Igaga, a 100-level student from the Department of Computer Science in UI, was apprehended by the DSS after the institution’s security unit handed him over.

Igaga, who is the son of Comrade Mike Igaga, a former UI students’ union speaker, and cousin to the late NANS President Moses Oisakede, was reportedly arrested due to a bugged telephone conversation between him and his father.

The conversation allegedly involved discussions about a national protest against hunger, which took place during a recent electricity protest at UI.

According to sources, the DSS in Abuja intercepted the phone call and directed their Ibadan counterparts to detain Igaga.

The student was subsequently taken by the school’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) and handed over to the DSS.

He is currently writing a statement at the UI security unit and is expected to return to the DSS on Monday.

In a chat with immediate past SUG president of the University of Ibadan, he told All Campus Show that Adeoluwa was not arrested but was rather taken to DSS and returned to the campus by the university's security unit

These arrests are part of a broader crackdown by the DSS on activists and youths involved in mobilizing for the nationwide protest.

Notably, some youths in some states were also detained but later released, they were accused of organizing and distributing protest materials.
