Brilliant idea: Societal needs should determine Country's Education curriculum – UNIMAID Prof.

A professor of Computer Engineering at the University of Maiduguri, Abdulfattah Abaoba, has suggested that societal needs should henceforth determine the country’s education curriculum in the higher institutions.

According to him, doing this will address a situation where people graduate but can’t find jobs.

Abaoba spoke at a seminar organised by ABK Alliance Limited in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday.

The don spoke on the theme: “ In search of Robust Funding Paradigm for Education in Nigeria.”

He explained that a market-based approach to tertiary education would help the nation “to avoid expending huge funds to train and churn out huge populations of graduates for non-existent jobs and to ensure that such graduates are produced according to the needs of the economy.”

Abaoba also called for the adoption of a hybrid system of the traditional and the ICT methods of teaching, learning and research as well as saving the primary and secondary systems of education from collapse.
