Resumption: UNIBEN Dean of Students welcomes Students back to School, says work commences immediately.



Following the National Universities Commission (NUC) directive on  the opening of all Universities and inter-university centres after the general elections,  The  Dean of Students,University of Benin, Prof. Clement Ighodaro has expressed genuine concerns for Students Safety and Security in returning back to school. As School resumes March 21st 2023, for the swift continuation of the first semester in the 2022/2023 academic session.



Prof. Ighodaro revealed this in an interview session with Journalists today.

 Recall, on February 9th 2023, The National Universities Commission, NUC, directed that all Universities in the country to go on break from February 22 to March 14, 2023 to enable students partake in the just concluded general elections. However, there was a change in resumption dated due to 

postponement of the 2023 governorship and Houses of Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission by a week. 



During the interview, Dean of students commended the students for their patience despite the shift of resumption date, due to polls postponement . 

He wished the students safe trip back to school and further highlighted the need for security consciousnesses amongst students, while traveling back, urging them to be mindful of the transportation companies and routes they follow .



Furthermore, the Dean of Students also advised that upon resuming academic activities, students should not hesitate to report any suspicious activity ongoing in their learning environments and halls of residence, to the School’s security. He pleaded UNIBEN Students to remain focused on the reason why they are in the University as well as to keep the good name of the University intact, adding that they should take their studies more seriously, as the time remaining for the semester is short. He also charged Students to maintain a peaceful atmosphere within and outside the University’s premises by complying with the rules and regulations and also desist from dubious acts that will jeopardize the University’s Image.


At the end of the interview, Prof. Ighodaro called on all Staff and Students of the University of Benin, to give full cooperation and  maximum support to the School’s management in moving the Institution forward and maintaining her laudable Image amongst several Higher Institutions.
